Join artist Claire Armitage in an introduction to mono-printing.

Claire Armitage creates textiles and prints to capture a sense of place and invite an immersion into the wild beauty of West Cornwall’s landscape, flora and fauna; with its hidden woodlands, sweeping curves of moorland and coastlines where the Atlantic Ocean meets the skies.

Claire gains a deep sense of place by revisiting the same locations to draw and paint from direct observation, exploring the colours and fauna as they change with the seasons and time of day. Back in her studio Claire creates detailed botanical studies of the plants she has collected. Gradually Claire develops the compositions and colours for her prints and textiles, often layering the minutia of nature within larger landscapes.

Monoprint workshop

The monoprint is a form of printmaking where the image can only be made once, unlike most printmaking which allows for multiple originals.

In this hands on, experimental workshop we will explore monoprint, both with and without the use of a printing press, combining hand drawing, paper stencils and painterly mark-making with imprints from natural forms, mixed media and textiles.

The beauty of mono-printing lies in its spontaneity and its allowance for combinations of printmaking, painting and drawing media.
